R.I testing sites closed due to winter storm

Rhode Islanders Wait In Line Up To 10 Hours For Covid Test

PROVIDENCE, R.I (WLNE) – All of the state’s indoor and outdoor COVID-19 testing sites are closed because of the winter weather.

The Health Department stopped accepting appointments mid-day on Wednesday in anticipation of the snow.

More than 1,200 people had already signed up to get tested according to RIDOH.

Once sites are safe to reopen, residents who signed up to get tested are told to bring their confirmation notice to their appointment and they will still get tested.

“When you show up to the site, just explain you had a test scheduled for Thursday and you’ll be able to get tested at that site at the same time”, said Joseph Wendelken, spokesperson for RIDOH.

Wendelken says the state’s sites have been forced to shut down once before because of the weather but stressed it didn’t cause significant backups.

He doesn’t believe it will cause a problem this time around either.

Health officials will make the decision on when the testing sites will re-open on Thursday.
