Raimondo extends Rhode Island’s state of emergency to July
The Rhode Island Department of Health reported 113 new COVID-19 cases and 16 deaths on Friday.
PROVIDENCE, RI (WLNE/AP) – Governor Gina Raimondo has extended the Rhode Island’s State of Emergency and several other of her coronavirus related executive orders until July.
Raimondo said this is to provide an additional month to prevent a resurgence of the disease. She added that the state of emergency that took effect on March 9, was extended until July 5 so the state can remain eligible for federal resources.
On Thursday, she mentioned that she had already renewed her mask executive order until July 4. The order was going to expire at the end of the day on Thursday.
As a reminder, this order requires everyone in Rhode Island to wear face coverings while in public places when social distancing can’t be maintained.
Raimondo said on Friday that state inspectors continue to see great compliance with Rhode Islanders wearing face coverings.
The order requiring people diagnosed with COVID-19 to remain isolated until they are cleared was also extended.
The Rhode Island Department of Health reported 113 new COVID-19 cases and 16 deaths on Friday. There were 4,417 tests recorded on Thursday, according to state health data.
The 4,417 tests that were recorded were a record high for tests conducted in one day, according to data. The positive rate for Friday was just under 3%.
The state’s COVID-19 death toll is now at 772 and the state’s cumulative case total is 15,441.
There are 182 people in the hospital with COVID-19 in Rhode Island, 37 are in the ICU, and 23 are on a ventilator.
