Regunberg fires back at Matos FEC complaint about Super PAC

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Aaron Regunberg’s campaign has responded to the FEC complaint filed by Sabina Matos’ campaign that accuses them of coordinating with a Super PAC.
Matos’ complaint alleges that Regunberg has been illegally coordinating with Progress Rhode Island, a Super PAC funded by Regunberg’s father-in-law and mother, citing a “red box” on the campaign website and flyers sent out by the campaign and the PAC.
The campaign the complaint as “ridiculous and unserious” and that Matos’ campaign itself is “dogged by ethical questions and is currently under criminal investigation.”
Matos is being investigated over allegedly forged signatures gathered by her campaign.
“The photos referenced by the lieutenant governor were publicly available for the purpose of our grassroots Dear Neighbors campaign,” Spokesperson Matt DaSilva said. “The photos were publicly available for weeks.”
DaSilva added that Matos herself has a “red box” on her website and accused her of communicating with Super PACs that support her.
“As pledged, Aaron’s campaign is proud to not be accepting a dime in corporate PAC or corporate lobbyist money, unlike the Lieutenant Governor’s, who has taken many thousands of dollars from lobbyists at firms representing Big Pharma, oil and gas corporations, utilities, banks, and other corporate interests,” he said. “Those corporate lobbyists aren’t contributing to Aaron, because they know he can’t be bought.”
Regunberg previously denied any connection between his campaign and the organization at Thursday night’s debate at Roger Williams University.
