Rhode Island’s COVID-19 death toll surpasses 1,000

PROVIDENCE, RI (WLNE) –  Rhode Island on Thursday reached the grave milestone of surpassing 1,000 deaths associated with COVID-19.

The Rhode Island Department of Health added 76 positive cases and 4 deaths to the state’s COVID-19 data on Thursday. There were 3,572 COVID-19 tests recorded by RIDOH on Wednesday.

That brings the state’s COVID-19 death toll to 1,001 and the cumulative case total to 18,148.

There are 67 people in the hospital with COVID-19, 7 in the ICU, and 4 require a ventilator.

Rhode Island has recorded 325,979 COVID-19 tests since March.

Gov. Gina Raimondo on Wednesday said that the state house will be lit up when Rhode Island reached the grave milestone of 1,000 COVID-19 deaths to honor the lives that were lost to the virus.
