TAUNTON, Mass. (WLNE) – The Taunton Police Department continues to remember fallen Patrolman John Borges, who lost his battle with COVID-19 on Christmas Eve.

The department shared a photo of Borges on Saturday.

The photo was taken after a fire in downtown Taunton.  Patrolman Borges was captured comforting a Portuguese-speaking resident who was displaced by the fire.

The department said the photo “displays the compassion John had for every one he encountered.”

In a Facebook post, the Taunton Police Department continued, “I guess the saying ‘A picture is worth a thousand words’ is true.”

John Borges died on December 24 after a battle with COVID-19.

Borges was a twenty year veteran of the Taunton Police Department, Search Manager for the SEMLEC Search and Rescue Team, a lead trainer for MEMA and active with the Civil Air Patrol.
