Warwick opens vaccination clinic for residents 75+

WARWICK, R.I. (WLNE) – Vaccinations continue in Warwick for residents 75 and older beginning on Monday, February 15.

The city announced a new COVID vaccination clinic at Warwick Veterans Middle School where any eligible residents with an appointment will get their shot.

Laurie Lavallee and her 90-year-old father, John, were ecstatic.

“To me it’s a sense of relief,” Laurie Lavallee said. “I’m glad he was able to get the vaccine. Very easy, went onto the website for the City of Warwick, signed him up through the portal and then just waited for the next email.”

The clinic will run for four consecutive Mondays for the first dose followed by four consecutive Mondays for the second dose from 9am to 430pm.

Eligible residents who signed up for the Warwick Covid-19 Vaccine Waiting List will be contacted by the email they provided to schedule an appointment. Vaccines will be administered by appointment only. Residents without email will be contacted with the number they provided.

“So many smiles. They’re ecstatic to get that shot,” Peter McMichael, Warwick Fire Chief and EMA Director said. “These people have been coped up in their homes for a long time. This first shot is the light at the end of the tunnel.

Doses will be distributed from oldest to youngest. There are also a few other options available for people who don’t make the cut this time around.

“We’re getting to everyone as quickly as we can,” Warwick Mayor Frank Picozzi said. “A lot of people have called and said they made appointments with CVS and Walgreens, they’ve already gotten shots and that’s fantastic. The look on the faces here today, though, is gratitude and relief.”

The Department of Health is providing the City of Warwick with vaccination doses to supplement the vaccination effort with CVS, Walgreens, and the Department of Health’s mass vaccination sites.

The RI Department of Health is also set to open two of their large vaccination sites later this week. One of those sites will be at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center and the other will be at on Sockanosset Cross Road in Cranston. Appointments have not yet opened up for those sites.

Warwick residents, 75 and older, should seek to get the first available appointment through any of these providers. All Warwick residents over the age of 75 will have the vaccine made available to them by one of these providers over the next several weeks.
