Woonsocket man sentenced to 25 years in prison for second-degree murder

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — A Woonsocket man who was found guilty of the murder of a 21-year-old man in Providence will spend the rest of his life behind bars at the ACI in Cranston.
After a five-day trial, 21-year-old Adauris Garcia was sentenced on October 27 to 25-years followed by a consecutive life sentence after being found guilty of second-degree murder, discharge of a firearm resulting in death and carrying a pistol without a license.
During the trial, the state proved beyond a reasonable doubt that around 9:45 p.m. on April 11, 2021, Garcia shot and killed Isaias Bulus Jr. after a drug deal on Atlantic Avenue in Providence.
According to witness testimony and corroborating digital evidence, Garcia set up a drug deal with Bulus Jr. During that transaction, Garcia got into Bulus’ car, brandished a gun and struggled with him before firing one shot into his back and fleeing the scene.
Approximately four hours later, Providence police got a car reporting a suspicious vehicle and responded to the scene where they found the victim.
“Here we have an altogether avoidable tragedy resulting in the senseless loss of life, and a family left without their son, brother, and father,” Attorney General Neronha said at the sentencing hearing.
“While nothing can undo the harm caused, it is my hope that this well-deserved prison sentence serves as some measure of comfort for the victim and his family. I thank the men and women of the Providence Police Department for their outstanding work here and in so many other cases,” Neronha concluded.
