PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) – The Rhode Island Department of Health reported 2,628 new cases of COVID-19 and 27 deaths since Friday.

The 2,628 new cases came with a 9.2% positivity rate.

The 27 additional deaths were reported, bringing the state’s death toll to 1,373.

Monday is the start of Rhode Island’s two-week pause, which Gov. Gina Raimondo put into effect as a result of the increase in COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations in the state.

COVID-19 field hospitals in Providence and Cranston are expected to start admitting patients this week as hospitals are filled to capacity.
