PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The ballot for Rhode Island’s primary and general elections will be taking shape over the next few days, as candidates officially declare their intentions to run for office.

The window for candidates to officially begin declaring opened Monday morning, and will close at 4 p.m. Wednesday.

So far, three candidates have officially declared for the Rhode Island gubernatorial primaries — Democrat Helena Foulkes and Republicans Emmanuel Boateng Adjei and Jonathan Riccitelli.

Current Gov. Dan McKee and Democratic primary frontrunner Nellie Gorbea are expected to declare before the Wednesday deadline.

Lt. Gov. Sabina Matos has yet to officially declare for the lieutenant gubernatorial primary. The only candidate currently who has declared in that race is Democrat Deborah Ruggiero.

Former Commerce Secretary Stefan Pryor is currently the only candidate who has declared for general treasurer. Pryor is running as a Democrat.

Democrat Gonzalo Cuervo and fellow Democrat Nirva LaFortune have officially declared that they are running for mayor of Providence. No other candidates have declared as of Tuesday afternoon.
